Within minutes it was clear that this office is a SCAM.nnFederal law requires clinical practices to have electronic medical records in order to be a HIPAA compliant institution. Why? It is way easier to commit fraud without a computer tracking your moves. I misplaced the piece of paper with my referral, so when I came in I offered to pull it up on the computer, fax it to them or email it to them, all of which the office said they could not accommodate due to lack of computers.nnI was given the clipboard with forms to fill out, but when I sit down to get started I see that 1) I am filling out no patient information (such as emergency contact info, demographics, etc.) like you normally would, and 2) I have approximately 15 different release forms in front of me to sign. I was rushed to complete the forms even after saying I would like to read everything I am signing. It was difficult to take in the large amount of release info (especially when I'm not a law student) while being rushed as well as with the loud TV playing a sitcom in the waiting room. Many forms related to settlements from accidents, power of attorney, etc. My injury was not related to an accident or settlement so I skipped some of these.nnI came down to four forms I needed to ask questions about, including one (only one) release form that requested my social security. As it is always good form to inquire what your social will be used for, I asked. The front desk attendant could NOT (or would not?) tell me what my SSN would be used for, but told me that I could not redact it.nnFinally I came to forms that said I would A) be responsible for services rendered that were not covered under my health insurance and B) consented to receive services not covered under my health insurance. I said I would not sign B, as I did not want services that my insurance would not cover (examples given were massage and electrode therapy). At first I was told that this was not possible because I had forgotten my script and a treatment plan could not be drawn up. I replied that even with a treatment plan drawn up I would not consent to procedures not covered under my plan. Then I was told the office had no way of knowing, which I said was fine I could speak with my insurance about the care plan and take out uncovered procedures, something that signing this waiver of consent would not permit me to do. I then had the PT tell me that it would be a 'waste of her time' to only perform stretching/exercising PT with me if I wasn't going to use electrodes and massage. A waste of time because she wouldn't be able to bill me for procedures out of pocket.nnThe fact of the matter is that every patient has the right to refuse a procedure, no matter what a treatment plan says or how the practitioner feels about it. Signing to waive this right is how thousands of dollars in surprise medical bills occur. I would be willing to bet my next paycheck that this office has scammed plenty of people in this way.nnI was also told that I could not receive copies of the forms I had signed, which also violates HIPAA. I terminated the intake process there and made sure I saw them shred the documents I had just labored over. I was then treated rudely and ignored. I'm sure they were less than thrilled they could not scam me out of my money.nnI'm lucky that I was able to read and understand these forms, I can't imagine the amount of people they are able to take advantage of with this ruse. ALWAYS read stuff before you sign it, and NEVER go to an office that's not HIPAA compliant.

Unprofessional establishment. Staff eating at desk, socializing as if it not a business. Last patient is 6p I arrived at 5:45p and I was asked if, “I’m one of those patients to come at this all the time,” that they are cleaning to close for 7p. Then I’m getting up with phone in hand and therapist tone when asking me to put my phone away was very aggressive and rude.
