To be clear from the onset, I think Barrel & Vine is great, the staff amongst the most knowledgeable, and the selection excellent. The four bottles I had them suggest for me were very good both because they were representative of the grape and the region. The gruner vertliner was nice with a minerally edge but still slightly effervescent. I hadn't had a soave in a very long time (and my recollection of it wasn't great either), so when it was recommended, I was skeptical. Served very chilled, it was fragrant and lovely. Definitely a summer wine, but very drinkable whenever if paired with a light pasta or broiled white fleshed fish, like striped bass, or clams either raw or gently grilled. I haven't opened the reds yet. One is an Italian Chinon, which sounded interesting. The other I let them offer a suggestion. It puts some pressure on the purveyor, but they were clearly up for the fun! Going new world (in this case, California), they suggested--wait for it (it wasn't a Pinot, Chard, or Cab Sauv)--a blend of Italian grape varietals grown in California. Actually, this wasn't as new world as it sounds, but rather old school. For those familiar with California grape history know that some of the earliest grape growers and vintners were Italian. California (in some regions) is perfect for some Italian grape varietals. This wine had those. I'm debating whether opening it now or putting it aside for a couple of years to see what happens. Oh, what the heck. I'll open it for Thanksgiving and if it drinks well, I'll get more. If it needs some time, I'll get more. Win, win. Just like going to Barrel & Vine... Oh, the four stars? So I can give them 5 stars when I go again.

When you walk into a wine store, and the owner can recommend something based on your tastes, but also tell you all you'd want to know about the vintage, AND she knows your name, you have found a good local business.nShannon was able to help both me and my wife countless times, has ordered things that we had had somewhere else so it would be in stock, and always has the best recommendations straight from her head full of wine knowledge.nHer community events are well attended all year, and her partnerships with other local businesses (like Merrily Blooms) create a go-to local spot.nEverything about Barrel & Vine is local business done right.nThanks Shannon.

Finally...a quick beer stop with draught beer at the Outlets! And the food...wow! Awesome! The charcuterie plate was my favorite! Artichoke dip a close 2nd. We jad the pulled pork sandwiches with the Carolina sauce...both on point! Even if you're not going to the mall, this place is worth the trip!
