How a restaurant should run! My wife and I got great news tonight and decided to celebrate in a whim. We knew that this “tavern place” that we’d walked by countless times had made a wonderful make-shift outdoor dining area and decided that it was our choice. Being 4pm and looking for a quick reservation, we asked if they had availability for 2 at 5pm. They couldn’t do that, but offered us 5:15, inside, near the window.nWhen we arrived, the owner was very pleasant and sat us at a nice table that allowed us to people watch. Being in the industry for 12 years, recently out, I also got to see how they operated, as their rush didn’t come until 6pm.nOur server, Sam, was excellent! Attentive, responsive, friendly.nThe drinks were great too! They even had Treehouse cans, mystery box when you order.nThe food, FINALLY I get to it, was excellent! We split the octopus over a great cucumber & arugula salad. Then a tasty burger & fries. Crab cakes were solid too.nGreat service, great owners, great food & drink! Give them a visit and support a great, local business!

It's my favorite place to go for dinner or for drinks. In this time of covid-19 they do take out and outdoor dining. The food is great, the atmosphere is casual but fun. They have an extensive drink selection and keep changing the beer and wines. I don't know Scotch myself but others who do say the tavern has excellent choices. Gerry and Alma are super welcoming as well as warm and witty and make you feel like you're the only one there. If I'm there alone I've ended up in facinating conversations. I can't recommend it enough.

The Washington Square Tavern is my favorite restaurant and local spot. Gerry and Alma are always so warm and welcoming. The food is great and wonderful selection of wine and beer to go with your dinner. I always look forward to having dinner there and also getting takeout when I can’t dine at WST.

The Tavern is the cornerstone of Washington Square's culinary scene. Elegant but not pretentious, inventive without being overly trendy. Very nice outdoor seating arrangement makes you almost forget about covid19.
