York Convalescent and Rehabilitation

I was only in the rehab for a very short time about five days and during my stay it was a nightmare. The nicest thing that I can say is the rehab people were excellent. A couple of the staff were nice. But the facility itself is old I went through three different beds them trying to give me a different bed and every one of them never worked.nI got very sick while I was there on the last day when I finally ended up in the hospital I had to call someone to come and take my temperature because I knew something was wrong with me and I something had to be done. I had a temperature of 102.5 they called an ambulance and took me to the hospital.nThat’s not even my biggest complaint once I got to the hospital I was admitted this was a Saturday I was admitted they called me on Monday and said will you be coming back, I said no I’m going to be in the hospital for a while could you pack up my things for me. I said to the nurse I have a suitcase there if you could take my clothes out of the drawers and put them in the suitcase and then I have some bags for the other things place them in there. Instead what they did was take everything from every drawer whether it was clean clothes, dirty clothes, food or toiletries they threw everything in garbage bags all together. When my friend came to pick up everything they handed her two garbage bags and an empty suitcase. This was by far the most disrespectful service or treatment I’ve ever had from anyone. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

This was my 2nd stay at York. I chose York because of the physical therapy team. They did not disappoint. However, the rest of my stay was a big disappointment. While some of the staff was caring, too many of them didn't care. Add to that I was moved twice. Final roomndidn't even have a shower! They were slow responding to my call bell. The physical therapists were wonderful and had me walking after 4 years in bed. Don't think I'll request them again.

The support and caring that my wife received there following her stroke was absolutely outstanding. The facilities were clean, the nursing staff was always helpful, and the therapy staff went out of their way to help and encourage my wife.

Since my retirement from the care giving field over a year ago, I have been a volunteer at York Convalescent & Rehab Center. Before that, I had worked in many different nursing homes in both VA and NY. When first coming here to serve, I was happy to discover that this is the most caring, friendly, and clean nursing home, rehab center, and Assisted Living facility I have ever had the pleasure to be in. I cannot praise the staff enough for their dedication to detail in every aspect to make this a safe, clean, and comfortable home for those who live here.
