Great site for a quick visit. Not big, but a great stop on the way to or from Hilo.

This isn't really a destination. It's just a place you drive through on your way to somewhere else. It is a beautiful place to look at until you get used to it. Then it just becomes miles of lava field. For fun, look for sheep and goats as you drive through.nYou will see the occasional sign for donkey crossing but you probably won't see donkeys any more. They finally got the wild donkey population under control.
