Worth EVERY step it takes to get here. Green sea turtles were in the water n sleeping on shore. Went snorkeling. Water wasn't super clear, I assume because of the rains.nSaw so much!!
Very cool place and we did see turtles, but the walk in was hard. Definitely do not wear sandals if you go. It is a pebble beach with tons of large rocks in the water. Not great for swimming.
Tl;dr The work to reward ratio isn’t great.nnI love to hike. I spent the last six days circumnavigating the island with my friends to hike and visit even remote beaches. Of all the activities we did during our trip, this was not the best.nnIt’s about a 1 mile way from the parking lot to bay on black gravel and sand. When we went, it was incredibly windy, but the bay was wind protected. The bay was not great for swimming, with large rocks and poor visibility.nnIf you’re staying in Kona and can not travel to other beaches for black sand or mediocre snorkeling, then I’d recommend a visit here. It is, of course, as beautiful as all Hawaiian beaches are and maybe you’ll catch better swimming conditions. If you are able to travel either towards Waimea or south of Kona, I’d recommend other beaches.nnGravel parking lot, portapotties available at the parking lot.
Yes, saw saw some turtles, which was neat, but this beach is not good for humans.nn-rocky, long path to get theren-pebble/rocky beachn-very shallow water so can’t swim/snorkeln-water has poor visibility for snorkelingn-despite the walk in, not remote as there are private houses and structures (kind of run down) so doesn’t feel as specialnnYou can possibly see turtles from the area near the parking lot anyways.
Something different. Definitely an adventure getting there.
