This place is great. My husband and I have gone here twice this year and we had a blast both times. The staff are very friendly and the historical background tour was full of great information. We felt the prices were extremely reasonable as well. When you first walk up to the mines you can see how the entire ground just sparkles with red...there is a lot of garnet to be found here! Overall, a great experience and we will be back again next year!

They are not open, phones are disconnected. Do not believe the advertisements. They have a few stones by the entrance for taking but it's not worth the long winding road.

CLOSED! Do not go by google information. Drove up for nothing. Telephone is no longer in service. So sad it looked like a really cool place to visit.

This was a fun experience for my two 12 year olds. Lots of garnet chips and 1/2” pieces. Like other reviewers, I was a little put off by the four bored-looking teens hanging around at the counter when we arrived, and I was a little worried when the most disheveled-looking one was asked to lead our tour, (and he looked less than thrilled), but he turned out to be very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, answering questions patiently. Like others, I wish we were allowed to stay longer than 50 minutes at a time, but we were invited to go back down if desired, so it wasn’t really a problem.

Great place for kids. Very easy to pan for the stones, so the young ones are just about guaranteed a good time. The shop is several miles up the road from Rt 28 with limited signage, just keep going and you will find it. Reasonable prices and an extensive gift shop as well. Nice place.
