I love this small community church. It’s special.

I have been a member of this church since 1992 when we moved to Gray. The grounds are beautiful and located right on Crystal Lake. This was a chapel added to St. Gregory's Camp For Boys started by the Sacred Heart Church of Portland, Maine in 1926. It is now part of The Parish of The Holy Eucharist with offices in Falmouth, Maine. We have numerous priests that rotate saying mass at our church on Saturday and Sunday. Covid 19 has impacted the masses reducing the capacity to 50 people by invitation through the church office. You have to contact the office to request a mass that you want to attend at one of the 4 churches in the parish. St Gregory's owns the A Frame cabins on the camp grounds. There is also a parish rectory right on the lake front along with a parish hall directly beside the rectory. There are restrooms available in the basement of the hall. Out behind the hall there is a private parish beach. This church has an excellent music group at Sunday 8:30am mass and an organist/singer at the Saturday 4pm mass. The pews that are in the church now we're aquired from the now closed Saint John the Evangelist in South Portland, Maine in 2019. This is a nice rustic church that was a chapel as part of St. Gregory's Camp for Boys and had hand made pews of wrought iron and very wide and thick pine planks. The previous pews also had hand crafted kneelers of curved wrought iron frames and hand made covered and cushioned kneeling surface. When the church was still a chapel in the boys camp it was unheated and later it was winterized and heated. There currently is no air conditioning, but it does have ceiling fans and usually is comfortable during the summers except for the more hot days. Masses are held through even the toughest winter days and rarely ever is closed to Masse's. The parish is a very welcoming group to the regular parishioners and it's visiting parishioners during the summer. The Sunday service is also considered the kids mass and they are called to the front of the church where the celebrant passes the Bible to one of the kids to lead all the kids and the teacher over to the parish hall for their mass. Christmas is very nice with the church decorated with balsam boughs and candles. Easter Sunday you will hear numerous parishioners ringing cow bells, sleigh bells and every kind of bell may be heard during the service. At Christmas mass the kids put on their Christmas Pageant directly after the morning mass. The best way to get here is to navigate to 24 North Raymond Road, Gray, Maine and turn there onto St. Gregory Road into the parking lot area.
