Great spot for a walk in nature. Beautiful topography, and a hot spot for herpetologists both amateur and experienced. Nearby hiking trials and camping options are available. Bring your camera, water, snacks, bug spray, and lightweight, comfortable clothing, and spend all day. Choose a good hat instead of sunglasses so your sight isn't dimmed and you can spot the wee beasties in the shadows, or even on the trail right in front of you. But don't mess with them - remember to respect them and their wildlife preserve that your visiting.

Snake road is always rewarding. I know I miss more than I see as the reptiles blend with cover so well. More than once I've been looking at something then realize there is something laying a foot or so away that I only saw because I had stopped to study a plant or other animal.

Amazing area of southern Illinois. Would recommend to anyone interested in seeing nature...animals, snakes, frogs, amazing bugs and more. People bring their entire families including children. Easy road to walk, shaded without inclines.

Nice little camp ground and you can get a great view from the bluffs just up the road!
