I was in terrible abdominal pain. My belly was rigid and distended. I could barely move. I went to mercy hospital in Des Moines where they said I had gas and sent me home with narcotics. By morning the narcotics didn't touch the pain. I called Dr Coster and he said come see me right away. Upon immediately arriving in Grinnell Dr. Coste made me his priority. After a quick exam he said he was taking me in for emergency surgery immediately. When the surgery was complete he told me my intestines were tied up in knots cutting off the main artery which was blowing up like a baloon getting ready to burst. I had about 2 more hours to live. He saved my life. He always treated me special, human, like a friend, like he deeply cared. It is rare that a doctor treat a morbidly obese person in the manor. He not only has a gift, he has a calling.
