The food is good and the view of the square is amazing but the price point is high and they made some decisions that do not make sense to me. For a place named 'Gumbos' you will be scratching your head looking for the gumbo on the menu. They have 5 different kinds but its just not listed for some reason. I took my mom here for a late lunch and we were relaxing on the upper porch. It was very peaceful and we were having a nice chat until they started blasting music from a blown speaker so loud we could not even talk. The audio quality was easily the worst I have herd to the point that it was actually kinda funny. They were kind enough to shut the speaker off when we requested it but I question how a place offering 30$ dishes would allow that sort of thing to begin with.nnThe inside has some beautiful architecture but it looks neglected in many respects with a heavy amount if 'DIY' quality tweaks. It gives you that small town home kinda feel but its like the place can't make up its mind if it wants to be an upscale establishment or a hole in the wall pub.nnIts not a bad place but I think the management needs to figure out what their trying to do with it. I couldn't help but feel like they had cut every corner they could to be cheap while trying to justify as high of a price point as possible. A decent contractor could probably turn that restaurant into something amazing. And be careful going up the stairs when you walk in, that banister on the right side is a death trap waiting to happen.
My husband and I came here for a fancy dinner date and were left underwhelmed. The restaurant has a good atmosphere but the food was only so so for the price. The service was fine but the waiter seemed a bit confused when we asked questions about the food, like he hadn't tasted it ever or something. Overall, not bad but there are better places to spend your money in Georgetown.
So this is easily some of the best cajun food in th area. The gumbo is spicy and crazy flavorful. The service is slow but 100% worth it. Get an old fashioned and the gumbo or literally ANYTHING ELSE . It's all amazing!
Came here Saturday evening (9/19/20). My friend and I really just wanted a quick bite to eat and came here from one of the wine bars up the street. We asked when the kitchen closed and we’re told 10pm—great! However, this was incorrect and our server, Brooke, told us it was actually 9pm (it was about 9:30, so it was closed already). She apologized and offered us some bread though.nnWe continued to sit outside and listen to the band and loved the vibes so didn’t want to leave, but I asked Brooke if we could get some gumbo or something at least. She wasn’t sure but then ended up coming back with 2 cups! AND bread. It was honestly all we needed and was so delicious! Our server Brooke was very polite and accomodating, the band was great and the gumbo was wonderful. Great experience overall!!nn**A suggestion for the decision makers:nthe place is called GUMBO’S. It would be stellar to serve gumbo all night long, even after the kitchen has “closed.” Servers could easily handle that like they do the bread. It would be a major perk for customers who just want a little something at the end of the night!
Pretty good Cajun food for a Texas restaurant. The red beans were good but very dark and had a strange flavor that was almost a mole or something. Definitely a Texan take on red beans. They were still good just different. Enjoyed the etouffe.
