The Academy has prepared my son to be admitted to the best Colleges in the Country. Our experience as a family was great, a lot like being in a preparatory school but included in your taxes.
Mr VanAlstynes class was fun
Of late I have been asked about Academy if science and technology by my friends circle since my older son went there 5 years back. My honest opinion, it’s not worth it. When my son went there, there were decent teachers but towards junior year we realized college park had better teachers and the students were performing better there. My son also expressed his input that he had terrible experience there.nComing to the current time, I did some digging and found out that lot of good teachers have left the Academy and it’s getting worse . The principal of Academy is all talk and no good.nThe top 6% is auto admission in Texas. College park kids get into this more than Academy.nSo , go to college park or woodkands high and avoid Academy @ any cost!
Don't do it.
Academy of science and technology should be totally seperate regarding student ranking from College Park highschool. It should operate independently. My son was outstanding student from out of state, transferred to College Park for one semester and he transferred out again because all the science and math competition opportunities were unfairly reserved for Academy students. Academy students were given a lot of advantages over College Park students. It sucks! So unfair and bias ! College Park students and parents should complain. No magnet school in this country operate this stupid way!
