My mom has been in rehab at heartland in union for several months. I just recently was told because of the care needed she was going to have to be full time. It broke my heart. Then when talking to my mom that she was needing the full time care. I asked her did she want us to try to get her located in Greenville close to us. She said no. I want to stay here at heartland in union. She always is telling me and the rest of the family how much she likes it there. Mom tells me they are nice and she is taken care of really well. As hard as it is to leave her knowing she loves it there and is taken care of gives me peace at mind and heart she is happy. Thank you Heartland for taking care of my mama when I can’t. You all are a blessing.
If you care about your loved ones, don't send them here. My loved one was neglected in every way. No baths, staff wouldn't answer calls, over medicated, under medicated, cold food, she was even screamed at for asking for help to go to the bathroom. I'm hoping I can find what agency polices these places, so I can report them. Please please please don't use this place!!!!
My parents have been in and out of this facility for years. This last visit for my mother became a safety issue. My mother was weaker during this visit than she has ever been. She was placed in the bathroom and left for so long she eventually tried to transfer herself and fell. The next day I called the social worker after talking to my mother and she was beginning to hallucinate and her cognitive state was changing. I started calling the social worker around 0830am - 1400pm never got a return call. I called her nurse 2 times and never got a return call. I told the receptionist that I was leaving work and on my way to get my mother to take her to the hospital to get evaluated. She told me in a rather aggressive tone if I thought I was coming up in there I was going to be disappointed. The social worker and the nurse both told me that they had been in corporate meetings all day that is why I had not received a call back. The next night my mother was in respiratory distress for 4 hrs, when i called her she couldn't breathe. I told the nurse and she stated we just sent her out last night we are doing a chest x-ray. I told her she needed to be sent now because she can't breathe. 4 hours later I spoke with the nurse and she stated we are trying to give her a breathing treatment but she can't take in any air and we are now going to send her out. She later was placed on a bipap machine at the hospital. and the Dr. called me at 0300am and told me that she wasn't going to make it and I had to tell her goodbye over the telephone because of covid. I then get a call from Heartland's nurse telling me i was going to have to pay for her bed if she wasn't back in 24 hours. The next day the nurse manager called and told me that she had tested + for covid. She was negative before she went in. I also received a call from someone at their corporate office telling me that they had someone positive there. Those nurses were so negligent. How can you let someone lie there for 4 hrs struggling to breathe because you are wanting an xray result. NURSES you always treat the patient not the test result. If you see someone in distress do something. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR LOVE ONE HERE, UNLESS YOU ALREADY HAVE THEIR FUNERAL PLANNED.
Rehab was great, but billing is a problem! My step father was there for a little over a month and received great care and rehab. He is back to living on his own and is having a productive life. My main problem is with the billing system. Because I ONCE went in to ask questions and verify information about his billing, I received the bill for his care. When I called to question why I received a bill for a capable person, I was met with loads of unprofessional attitude from the first line billing person. I was informed that I was named AR representative because I had answered some questions and verified information. I never signed anything... I never said I was responsible for the bill... but the first line billing person decided the bill belonged to me anyway. Sigh, now I have to figure out how to talk to a calm person to get this fixed.nnEDIT: I spoke with a wonderful billing manager who heard my concerns and frustrations and fixed the problem immediately! I hate that our rehab experience was marred by the billing situation. I changed my rating to 5 stars because the rehab and care was great.
This facility and the staff are fantastic! The staff are so helpful and go above and beyond to help the patient AND the family. Special thanks to Heather and Mitzy for all of the help in getting my mom where she needed to be. The facility is nice and clean and my mom also loves the food, which is pretty important as well.
