Sallisaw Police Department

My husband and I were walking down a road minding our own business when out of nowhere two officers of the Sallisaw PD blocked our path with their police cruiser. Then, and fat man named Hutchinson got out of the passenger side of the cruiser and asked for both of our ids. The second officer named Oliver got out of the driver side of the cruiser and was silent. When my husband asked what was the probable cause for us being detained, Oliver grabbed my husband's left arm and began to try to arrest him, meanwhile the first officer started screaming at him 'Put your hands behind your back, sir'. They harassed my husband and I for me being a African American woman, and him being a Native, but perceived as being a Caucasian man. After 30 seconds, I screamed at both officers to get your hands off my husband and we will not tolerate any racial profiling or discrimination. So once they heard the r word, they FINALLY let my husband go, and I was able to show them both our ids, and then continue to ask what was their probable cause. First, the officers claimed someone called and said we were walking down the wrong side of the road. I questioned the officers and said why do they not detain other people in Sallisaw who do the same thing everyday; they gave me no response. I asked again, what was the probable cause, and they said they needed to id us, but would not say why. Finally, they said they just wanted to know who we were, even though one officer knows my husband and our family very well.nnThis police department is a sham; it is a miscarriage of justice to have people in badges who can harass folks for no reason except for being the wrong skin color or in the wrong family. I warn anyone reading this to be mindful of the laws and do not show fear to these people, because they have no real power to do this, and if more people started to stand up against their tyranny, then maybe Sallisaw could be a better place.

Sallisaw does not permit the selling of any live animals within city limits of Sallisaw. There isn't a permit or anything it's prohibited. Thank you to the kind officers at Sallisaw police department for kindly letting us know.
