Don't let the plaza intimidate you from going inside this library. It may not look like much on the outside, but this branch has recently been refurbished on the inside. And the staff has always been helpful and welcoming. It is a perfect branch for a family with young children- the size is perfect for browsing without being too overwhelming. There is usually some cool reading program going on and lots of events when we're not in a pandemic.nnWhen I was a newer mom I was nervous to go in for the first time, but I'm so glad I did! Carol could tell we where new as soon as we walked in and directed us where to go. After the storytime Ms. Antoinette walked us out to the children's section and recommended some board books for us that my son absolutely loved! And they had a space themed summer reading program going on, so Orlando hooked us up with a little summer reading welcome bag before we left. I branched out and started taking classes there too and loved them.nnThey still offer lots of classes through zoom that make story time even more accessible. And we're glad they're open for our frequent visits to get new books.
My visit was quick and efficient as always. They have better security there than at the Capitol Building on 1/6/2021.
I can see why cops are stationed at this branch! The low class people that are there plus customers that aren't even in the library but frequent here are enough to tell me!nI'd like to tell others to make sure ya don't have to pay for a library card if you're there for the 1st time. If not, good. From what another reviewer has commented: once ya have a card and you're at the computer a male worker expects ya to use it and not go back and forth between your phone or own PC. Why? Don't know but it's ridiculous for any1 to tell ya this! What's the big deal anyway? Sometimes ya have to go from 1 device to another. It shouldn't matter because ya have a library card!
I didn't get her name but the blonde woman there was so sweet and helpful with helping me get paperwork sent to my sons school. Im so grateful!
Insolent & incompetent: staff, location and operation. I was having an off & stressful day. I wanted to find a cool place where I have access to WiFi (to finish required forms for work) and have access to a power outlet to charge a device. I have a CLEAR understanding that I wouldn’t have such pleasures at a fast food location - because they provide food service - and that would just be inappropriate. The practical thing to do, would be to walk over to the building marked “Library”.nnI walked into the library and I explained to the librarian my above situation, which is honestly very simple and minimal. The gentleman was in good understanding, he only advised me to apply for a library card. Easy, let’s do it.nnI walk over to the computer area, the place was clean and the air was nice, so I settle in. I go to an area that is in a corner and away from everyone. I sign into the computer and attempt to access the internet just to assure my login information and credentials properly work. The system was a little tricky, but I eventually gain access. The forms I needed to complete for work were on an app on my mobile device. So I was going back and forth on the computer and on my device but my main focus was my documents for work.nnI’m in this corner, I’m minding my business.. and 30 minutes of me being there, the SAME librarian who suggested me to apply for this library card (in acknowledgment to my above situation) says “You’re on your phone more than the computer, we need you to log out and go outside”nnExcuse you?nnNow, I college educated. I have been in several different libraries. There’s a universal quiet rule where you keep your voice down and don’t disrupt others peace. In this situation, I’m NOT talking on the phone. But if I was, I would have every intention to take my call outside. However I’m in a corner, pressing “yes or no” questions on an app ... you wouldn’t even know I was there.nnHe still insisted that I was disrupting others and that I needed to leave. Then he goes into “we need to make room for others who need to use the computer” - there was NO hold or wait for anyone wanting to use a computer, besides there were 14 other computers available and five computers were bring used.nnThis has nothing to do with race, this has nothing to do with our current pandemic. As you see, I didn’t even have to mention the two this entire review. this was pure HARASSMENT. This is unacceptable and I feel very disrespected. I got very angry and frustrated so I decided to leave - but There is NO reason why I become a member to a company/business and not able to use the simplest amenities. I’m not letting this happen to me or anyone else. I will be fighting this to all means necessary.nn^ Get this - After this whole situation, I walk to the Planet Fitness which is in the same plaza. I presented the lady my gym card because I am a current member, I explain I just need WiFi access and a power outlet; lady shrugged her shoulders and went on about her day .................. and I couldn’t get the same respect from a LIBRARY.
