Private home. Like other Valley homes, built as a fortress or fort by German/Swiss settlers to Shenandoah Valley while the Valley was still occupied by Native Americans. Not surprised there were sqirmishes with land grants giving title to lands already including Native settlements, burial grounds. Near the river on fertile ground. This home features a beautiful HUGE fireplace in dining room as well as big rooms throughout of large logs, over a cellar designed for defense. Contemporary use is blended in well. A well-placed historical marker would help carry the story from early 19th century through pre-civil war times to the present.
