You can hear the traffic but other than that not a bad hike.
Short trail down to a picnic area with some neat retro plaques with illustrated messages from the forest service. Terminates in the logging road that runs next to the picnic area. If you walk back along the road there are a couple spots behind hills where the road traffic is obscured and it's pretty quiet and peaceful.
This is a trail to Yellow Cliffs Mountain Overlook. Great short trail with awesome overlooks. Total length of trail is 1 mile to the overlook and 1 mi back. 770 foot climb. While the trail is short it is pretty steep. From the visitor center parking lot follow the paved path toward the Discovery Trail. Then immediately at the sign take the dirt trail to the right (this is an unmarked trail). Within .25 mi you'll meet up with an orange marked trail. A mile into the trail there will be 3 overlooks about 50 yards apart. The trail does continue past the overlooks, but not sure where it leads.
This is a beautiful hike, and if you are feeling adventurous try connecting with Bird Knob Trail and seeking out Emerald Pond. Depending on approach it can be 8.5 - 9.5 miles out and back.
Itz a very uphill hike for 45 minutes, but the view and two overlooks at the yellow cliffs are spectacular. Be careful of the rock garden areas, if you arent paying attention, you can easily twist an ankle or slide a few inches from your foothold!
