Pleased to see the site still flourishing 25 years after our memorable visit. Since that visit, we have discovered ancestors who owned a plantation nearby on Farrar’s Island. Our memory of Shirley Plantation brings alive the lives of our forebears.

It was beautiful on a warm afternoon to sit outside on the benches along the James River with the breeze coming from the river. The Plantation house is beautiful. The kitchen was very interesting with artifacts from the plantation days. The tour of inside the house is a little pricey but the tour guide explained a lot about the Plantation.

Love to look at this tree right across the river from us. truly amazing...I image my self next to it or under it in the 1600s.

Since 1640, when just a tiny sapling about 375 years ago, the Willow Oak has stood on the bank of the James River and watched the sunset over 136,875 times. We should all be so lucky.
