A complete yoga practice: joyful, meditative, deeply healing, nourishing body and mind.nAm achieving strength without stress or strain, and flexibility as the gentle unfoldment of mynpotential. All movement is breath centered and connected to consciousness of one's deepest well being.nI'll never go back to all the other yoga's I've tried. This is the real deal. V.

After taking a couple of classes at Taos Yoga Therapy, I fully realized that this is where I wanted to pursue yoga teacher training. The course is breathless in what it offers... a complete spectrum of what yoga truly is, which is much more than the physical asanas that we do in yoga classes. The philosophy, the teachings, learning pranayama (breathing techniques), chanting, and meditation leaves one with a profound understanding of the full breadth of the practice and a foundation that guides one's life.

I looked long and hard for a course that would suit my needs. I had taken yoga teachers training back in the 80's and I wanted to renew my enthusiasm for the practice of yoga and the possibility of sharing the profound benefits of yoga with others. The Svastha Yoga Institute was the perfect choice for me. Not only were the instructional classes thorough, the class size was small and intimate. As a student, I received the detailed information I wanted. Monique Parker as director does an excellent job in relating the Yoga Sutras to everyday life but also giving clear understandings of these precise pearls of wisdom and the Samkhya philosophy. The Svastha Yoga Institute curriculum focuses on the original classical aspects of yoga including asanas, breathing, chanting and meditation all based on the teachings of Krishnamacharya, a profound Indian yogi/scholar of the 20th century. I received everything I needed and more from my training at the Svastha Institute.

For 10+ years I have been practicing Yoga... That is, I thought I had been. The truth is, my asana practice was solid yet my mind was not focused or steady. How could I call what I was doing “Yoga” when my development as a Yogi was stunted by a favor in physical progress yet neglecting a mental practice? My ignorance was apparent, so I set out on a mission to find a credible instructor whom I could study Yoga in depth under. Some time went by before finally reaching my destination at the Svastha Yoga Institute.nLike coming home, I immediately resonated with the teachings at the SYI. An entire world was exposed to me which had not existed before. From pranayama practice to chanting mantras to studying the Yoga Sutras- this is what I was seeking; methods to prepare the mind to sit in meditation. The Heart of Yoga.nMonique Parker is a walking testament of what Yoga is capable of when commitment is paired with discipline. The instruction, guidance and material provided at the SYI went far beyond what I imagined possible. I am honored to have had the opportunity to study in the direct lineage of Krishnamacharya via Monique Parker. My gratitude goes beyond words, for the tools received to further my Path to Peace.

I have been meaning to write a review for SYI, but have been traveling and unsettled...waiting for the perfect moment to write my review, teacup in hand, computer set up in brand new home. Alas, traveling is still in progress, but tonight became the perfect night to write my review.nnIn the wake of yet another atrocity in the news and another blow to the overall sense of safety in the world, I immediately took hold of my mind while sitting in the passenger seat of my car in a Petco parking lot. The dismay and horror I felt on hearing about the Terror attacks in Paris was not replaced, but accompanied, by the mantra I practiced in our teacher training. I realized in that moment that what separates mynIife before and after my training at SYI, is that I now have a place to put my mind. Sometimes fully and sometimes partially. And I can even do it in a Petco parking lot.nnRegardless of whether the storm is blowing internally or externally, there is a place I can go that inserts peace into the puzzle, even at times where none had previously felt possible. A world of wealth for practice on and off the mat.
