Half the staff are extremely helpful. The other half are rude.

Today Iufe0f went to the sheriffs department to get a background check for a job Iufe0f just got. Iufe0f am an 18 year old girl fresh out of high school, and Iufe0f have never had to do anything like that for a job before. Iufe0f went in super happy and tried to be as friendly as possible (which is something Iufe0f try to do whenever Iufe0f am being serviced by someone). Iufe0f had some trouble with getting the paperwork Iufe0f needed, but once Iufe0f did Iufe0f went into the building to get my background check. The officer Iufe0f spoke with was not in the slightest kind to me. As a young adult, learning how to do new things, Iufe0f was unsure how to fill out the paper and although my boss had just sent me the paper with the code on it, it was still difficult for me to understand the paper because it seemed as if there were codes all over it, and Iufe0f didn’t know where to find the correct one. First Iufe0f asked the officer where the code was on the paper my boss sent me and showed him the picture of it, to which he responded with “Iufe0f don’t know what code you need.” *very condescendingly* Iufe0f continued to read off the multiple codes Iufe0f saw, which I didn’t realize were the same, and if he would have helped I would have realized that sooner. He negatively said that the codes were the same and that was the one to use. Iufe0f wrote it down and then moved on to the address portion. Iufe0f asked what address Iufe0f should use (because Iufe0f didn’t know if it was an address for the people testing the fingerprints, or if it was my address for my place of work) and he rudely said “Iufe0f don’t know. Where do you need it to go” and then when I asked if it was meant for my place of work he said “is that where it is supposed to go?” And Iufe0f said “Iufe0f just wasn’t sure if it meant the place that the fingerprints get reviewed at or not.” I followed up by saying “Iufe0f am sorry if Iufe0f am bothering you, but Iufe0f have never done this before and am just trying to ask questions and get help.” Finally Iufe0f asked what ‘ATTN’ is (another part of the form) and how Iufe0f should fill that out, and never got a direct answer, but was rudely told to write my jobs name. At this point, Iufe0f was already intimidated and overwhelmed by the officer and his behavior. My money was in an envelope that my boss had given to me and Iufe0f had not opened myself. The price for my background check was $70 and my boss had put $80 in the envelope, all $20s. Iufe0f did know that they needed exact change, however Iufe0f was not the one to put money in the envelope so Iufe0f had no control over the situation. When the officer opened the envelope he rolled his eyes at me because it wasn’t exact change. He sent me to another room to get my break my bill. When Iufe0f got in there, some VERY sweet women, approached me and asked what Iufe0f had needed. Iufe0f told them and as they were getting my change, they asked me what was wrong (my eyes had filled with tears as Iufe0f was waiting and they could obviously tell Iufe0f was upset). Unable to hold it back, Iufe0f began to cry, to which they responded by giving me tissues. They helped to try to calm me down and even speculated on who it could be to have made me feel so bothersome. As Iufe0f was calming down, another officer came in and said I was holding up a line. Iufe0f did NOT want to appear weak in front of this officer, so Iufe0f rubbed away my tears, finished my background check and walked out the door feeling intimidated, frustrated, unimportant, defeated and most importantly like a bother to the officer who worked with me. Iufe0f absolutely hate the stereotypes that white men and officers often face, but sadly as Iufe0f left that office, Iufe0f saw it. Iufe0f saw what everyone always complains about. As a kid, officers are supposed to be someone you look up to and trust when you need help. However, when I needed help, I did not receive much of it. You’d think with everything going on right now, they would be bringing on their A Game. But sadly Iufe0f did not experience this today. Iufe0f wanted to write this not to complain about the department, but hopefully to spark change. As a young adult learning to do new things, Iufe0f need guidance and help, not a condescending attitude.

No one was able to explain to me whether or not I'd be required to pay the outrageously expensive court fee after the police officer recommended I tried to get my citation lowered. I shouldn't have to call a lawyer for what should be such a simple question. Still haven't gotten a straight answer.
