Even though it's a large school, there are so many clubs and activities you can join to make you feel like you're a part of the school community. Always safe. Faculty and staff care about their students.
Dr. Marmor brings shame onto Francis Lewis High School. If I had to describe him in a single word, it’d be “SLOB”. He is so sloppy and unprofessional that it causes embarrassment. He wears tight, stained tees that showcase his potbelly. He wears a dirty zipper sweater with sweatpants and a pair of old sneakers. His remaining hair is unkempt. I have never, not once seen him look remotely decent. It’s amusing to see how he’ll take a students phone for using it for classwork but won’t say anything or try to enforce a rule preventing students from smoking in the bathrooms, locker rooms, or classrooms. I’ve choked on smoke because of a student a few times and I am concerned for second-hand smoking. They vape openly in bathrooms; why doesn’t anyone notice? I wouldn’t recommend people to apply.
Dear Freshmen,nI have Period Six Latin with Ms. Gutierrez. When you get accepted and have to pick a language class, AVOID LATIN WITH MERCEDES GUTIERREZ AT ALL COSTS! She speaks broken English in class but I once witnessed her talking drastically better outside of class. She lacks the motivation to teach, as she assigns us pages from the same textbook. The uniformity of her teaching is borderline depressing.nRecently, she listed the topics of a test we were slated to take. The test we took had LITTLE to do with what she told us to study. We had to translate a whole page which was a task we have never undertaken on our own by ourselves and understand questions written in Latin, all without a glossary. We normally translate three sentences at most with a glossary.nShe has a classroom rule of no eating but yet she enters the class, scarfing down Arby's and teaching while chewing with her mouth open. This, along with her thick accent, makes her unable to be understood.nFor tests, she has the habit of making students roll up their sleeves and show her their hands and arms to ensure no one is using a cheat sheet. It's very uncomfortable and unnecessary.nShe also took a long leave of absence and immediately gave us a test, expecting us to remember what little we learned.nDr. Marmor, please meet with Ms. Gutierrez to help her become a better teacher.
This school provides amazing opportuinites for any high school child. They give the child a Castle Learning account, tutoring in the child's subject of need, free lunch and the opportunity to join over 50 clubs!nAn amazing place. The best english teacher is MS. FRANZA
went here a few years ago. very overcrowded, but the teachers are great. unfortunately I found out about half the teachers I had have left/retired, but still this is a very good high school to go to. lots of ap classes, athletic/social clubs, jrotc, etc. I learned a lot here and I highly value the education I recieved from here as it was better than my elementary, middle and even undergraduate education in terms of quality.
