While only a small portion of the collection is on display at any given time, this free gallery is immaculately presented in a refurbished parachute factory. The staff is friendly, very knowledgable, and more than willing to engage in conversation the less than 20 visitors per day.nnAlthough much of the collection is now a little dated — with a disproportionate number of pieces created in the 80's 90's — it's more than likely you'll have the place to yourself. The serenity and contemplative vibe of the place alone makes it warrant a visit.

Strange stuff. Like the fact that it was free on Thursday. Quiet and hidden weird gem in Astoria.

Great gem of contemporary north American 20th century art in the middle of nowhere. But it is free from Thursday noon till Sunday at 5 pm.

Can't comment on the collection but after reaching them (and they're a bit out of the way) found a closed door even though their website was clear that they were open. After buzzing the doorbell we were told that there was nothing to see inside and we were not let in. Maybe you shouldn't waste your time? PS1 is just a short walk away in case you're in the area.

Fantastic little museum with great staff and amazing permanent collection (Eggleston, Ruscha, Warhol, Kiki Smith etc) with rotating exhibits as well. Always free. An LIC gem.
