This Police Department has gone down hill like CRAZY in the past few years. Been a resident for 11 years and they way these police officers HAVE TOTALLY lost their sense of COMMUNITY. It's unfortunate when you feel like you can not trust the police in the town in which you live.

The Amherst Police Department has kept my town and family safe, they've kept your families safe too. They try to keep Amherst to be a haven of order unlike the major cities that surround us. Be grateful for their work, their kindness and stop feeding into the anti-police sentiments that plague people now a days.nnThank you Amherst PD!

As a Umass student, I needed police help for two times during my 4 years—one relating to online scam and another relating to identification theft. Each time I went to the UMPD at first and they showed extreme helpfulness, however when they find I don’t live in campus they direct me to the Amherst PD—I understand that since it is illegal then for them to help me if I don’t live in-campus. But, when I go to Amherst PD the people there never tried to help me each time, they direct me to PayPal and “identificationprotection.gov”, and of course these are the things I tried before going to police department. I don’t know why the problems that could be solved at UMPD become “not my business” at Amherst PD.

Police officers rarely work a regular, 40-hour week. They work late nights, weekends, and even on holidays. Most officers work outdoors, and are subjected to harsh weather conditions. This line of work is also mentally gruelling. On a daily basis officers as young as 20 yrs old witness terrible things, become the target of a violent assaults, and verbal abuse. At the end of the day, they have to deal with the physical and psychological stress brought on by these situations while remaining calm both on duty and off duty.nnWorking as a police officer brings on a range of emotions, some good, some bad it changes people in ways an IT job, blogging, gaming, or a retail job will not. One shift as a police officer can leave you feeling satisfied, rewarded, sad, disgruntled, lonely and fulfilled, all in the same time. If you've ever wondered what it's like to work in law enforcement, take a look at a day in the life of a police officer, step in his/her shoes ask why they do why they do. Maybe try being a police officer for a a year.nnTheir job is incredibly demanding, and it takes a certain type of person to do the job well. This department is one of those places, one of the best, they kept my family safe and yours too whether you like to hear it or not. Those posting negative comments and low ratings probably never tried doing the job and probably will never have the courage equivalent to any of the Officers at the Amherst PD. Yes they are flawed, but so are you who. Those of you who are quick to judge, blame and belittle people who are braver than you'll ever be.

Using a military style helicopter to seize a single marijuana plant from an 81 year old woman using it to ease her arthritis and glaucoma? Seems to be a huge waste of resources.
