Incredible- the reserve is beautiful and managed with great care. It is also truly enormous and we didn’t appreciate the scale until we drove through on the rough roads. We entered from the south and exited in the north. We recommend an SUV for this trip and definitely make sure your tank is full. The walking trails are also very well done. The longer walk claims to be hard but really isn’t- just take a couple of hours to take it all in. Worth coming again to observe the seasonal change.

Getting up close and personnel with Buffalo. CAUTION: Do Not try to ride one

When I sit and watch the Buffalo I'm taken back to a time were life was simpler. I'm sure the work was hardest I think life would have been better. Buffalo were not only on the reserve but roamed freely across the state. Yes, I was born 200 years to late.nThis is a must see. Charge your camera and don't be in a hurry. This is a place to slow down, unwind, and enjoy these magnificent creatures God has given us to enjoy.nThank you to all of the staff who keep the reserve in great condition. We visit yearly. We love it.

This is an absolutely beautiful area. It feels untouched other than the road. Takes you back to what the earliest days on this land might have looked like. Keep in mind to definitely set your expectations accordingly. If you're looking for something to jump out at you, this might not be the spot you're seeking. Super peaceful. Broad vistas. You can see for miles. It's really great to see herds of buffalo what would have been close to their natural environment. This drive has an entirely different type of beauty all its own. As for improvement, they really only need a few more places to pull off the road slightly to let traffic by and be able to take in more of the beauty of the natural surroundings. Some people might buzz through here and think it was a whole lot of nothing burger. If you think that's likely to happen to you, then don't waste your time. If you want a beautiful drive in the country on the way to Pawhuska, then this delivers. The gift shop was closed but that didn't change anything either way about the quality of the visit. There are some nice hiking trails and a picnic area down by the stream. It'd be great to see a more comprehensive map at each of the entrances and more instructive signage to help visitors get the most out of the experience. It's a great chance to explain the significance of the grasslands and what the habitat means to the ecosystem.

Loved it. Great place to see buffalo in their natural habitat. Beautiful views. Wish I had stopped at all the overlooks but will next time. I was pleased to see as many people out as there were for a Sunday afternoon. Not busy or crowded people enjoying it.
