Called to report a noise complaint (party loud enough to wake me from another apartment community). The phone operater was very kind and proficient (sorry I didn't catch your name; Barb??). Dispatch responded within 10-15 minutes. It was so peacefully quiet. I mean, music started up again a minute or so later, but that's not their fault and it's at a fraction of what it was anyway.

Twice recently, unfortunate circumstances led to contact with Prince William's finest. On both occasions all the officers involved were extremely professional and knowledgeable, while empathetic at the same time. Their mannerisms were calming during stressful situations and they patiently understood how anxiety can interfere with normal comprehension. I don't think it's a coincidence that on separate occasions involving different sets of officers, that all were like this.I think it speaks of their command and the culture within their department, as well as the caliber of people they hire, that they treat citizens in accordance with the law while being respectful of the individual and sympathetic to their human nature.nnJuxtaposed to another encounter with a different agency, I think my point can be made clearer. A couple of years ago I found myself confused by a new layout of construction barrels on the roadway. I noticed a Virginia State Trooper parked under an overpass, so I carefully approached him hoping for assistance in figuring out how to navigate through. Not wanting him to feel threatened, I pulled far off the roadway and idled with my foot on the brake and stopped my vehicle about 50 yards behind him. Just as I was about to get out and walk over to him, I noticed him racing his car toward me and he abruptly braked at an angle in front of me as if for some reason he felt it necessary to block me in. This completely took me by surprise, making for an out of body surreal moment, as there was absolutely nothing I had done that could reasonably be construed as warranting this dramatic maneuver. He proceeded to jump out of his car and approached me driver's side demanding to know what the hell I was doing. I explained the confusion I was having and hoped to get his assistance. Since this isn't meant to be commentary aimed at the Virginia State Police, I'll withhold the ensuing dialog, but in summation this man was rude, unnecessarily aggressive, insulting of my intelligence, and had I not been a mature middle-aged female suburbanite, I might not have had the composure it required that kept the situation from escalating into something unfortunate.nnThe dichotomy between the two representations of agencies clearly depicts the reasons why America is protesting law enforcement tactics and what America would consider to be the ideal. Based on my experiences, Prince William County Police are a model for the nation.

Well-deserving of their abysmal Google rating. We're paying for this???

The county Police officers are very nice, but the same can’t be said of the city of Manassas force. I was violated and treated like a child and ignored for property that was stolen and trashed by a 26-year-old African American male. One of the officers, a female, who was very rude and aggressive toward me, talked down to me for trying to tell my side. She even said I was a cop-hater. Wow, I am a cop-hater because of my comment regarding a feeling of distrust toward the legal system. Ok???! I also got a trespassing complaint and could be arrested for coming to the work of this criminal that violated me and made assault charges as well as hate-crime comments because I am a gay male. So this is where I draw the line. I basically was a scapegoat for a positive-spin for police regarding racial-bias, and not for the real issue, theft and destruction of my property. This will now be my mission to show media outlets the widespread intolerance of a citizen who was mistreated and ignored. I will write a formal letter of complaint to Mr. Parrish regarding this negative experience I had with the city police force and how belittled as a gay male.
