This is a jewel. First the carriage house is well preserved, has original written histories of the era circa late 1800s. The main house features amazing woodwork and light work. Docent was very knowledgeable. Lots of books and crannies. Yard had amazing trees and specimen plants.
What an incredible gift! The house, and Carriage house, and the stunning grounds, were an absolute delight for my family. The children enjoyed the rich history, and gorgeous architectural details. Thank you for keeping this place going, it's a real treasure! Also, the prices are so reasonable! It was amazing to have such wonderful entertainment for the whole family!
The house is presented as it used to be at the end of 1800's. You can walk around on most of the rooms at your own pace. There are displays describing each room/area so you can imagine the atmosphere at that time. Great experience!
The Victorian architecture caught my eye. You get your admission ticket in the carriage house, which has the gift shop. The person at the desk has you watch a 10-minute history video about Captain Flavel and his family before you go in. It’s worth watching. Most of the rooms in the main house were roped off so you can’t go in and get a closer look. You’ll likely spend less than an hour here. The garden is really nice.
A must see if you're visiting, Astoria. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The self guided tour is amazing! They even had a little fun scavenger hunt for my son. They offer a bundle package for the jail museum. Pricing is very reasonable. They have a cute gift shop where you purchase your tickets.nnDeducted 1 star for not being wheelchair/handicap friendly. Sadly, can not take some family or friends to experience this museum because of that.nMasks are required.
