Found this quite by accident. Unfortunately, Covid prevented us from the tour. Only 3 stars since we were unable to visit the caverns.

I have been to the Lewis and Clark caverns 4 times now. I feel the best way to visit the cave is to stay at the state campground and visit the caverns from there. If it's hot the best time is in the morning. As the trail is a little bit of a walk to get there. I have seen a lot older people do the walk so you can too. The tour of the cave is guided and not to strenuous. Take your time on the walk and bring some water with you for the slightly uphill walk. There is a separate trail to and from the cave that ends up at the parking lot and cafe near your vehicle. The tour is reasonable and there is a cafe and gift shop at the entrance. The parking is good and I have seen large RV's up there. They even have a dog kennel so you can leave your buddy in the shade. The road there is about 3 miles up the hill. It has a little bit of a grade but not to bad. Again just take your time driving up the hill. The tour of the natural caverns is great and the tour guides for a good job on there presentation that gives the visitors a view of the caves history and unfortunately some abuse. If you have questions just stop at the state ranger station at the entrance and they will be more then glad to help you.

We had an AMAZING time climbing through this astonishing natural wonder. The history, beauty and great guide made the visit very memorable and exciting. We also stayed in one of the cabins that are available to rent. We hit the end of the season so we missed the hustle and bustle of the summer crowd. This experience allowed us to truly enjoy a piece of what Montana has to offer. I would suggest going toward the end of the summer and definitely prep. for a nice trek up the side of a mountain and 300ish feet down inside of it.

The caves are beautiful and very interesting, my only complaint is that the website did not make it very clear that there was an additional fee for the tour. The fees mentioned were only about access to the park ($6 for non residents, free for residents) and the tour for our family of 5 cost an additional $53, worth the cost, but I would have liked for that to show up in my internet searches.
