At first I googled trying to find the 1949 cookbook my grandmother had. I found a range of prices some as high as $125. Since I prefer to do business with small mom and pop shops, like Dogtown, I decided to give them a try. It was listed online for $40 and I wasn't even sure they would still have it. I called Bob and he was very pleasant and said given the age the book is in great condition, I even explained the story behind the book. My grandmother had passed many years ago, leaving me a water jug of pennies that have broken more storage containers over the years, but I never wanted to spend them. While at my Dad's he had this cookbook out and as I was about to ask him for it said my sister already asked, so off to Google I went! And what better way to spend the pennies!! I ordered the book the day before a holiday, but still had it in my hands within 6 days and the books condition far exceeded my expectations - aside from some yellowing of the pages, it is like new! I plan to add my grandmother and father's notes to it and will pass it along to my children.nOne day I will make the trip to the physical location as I love old book stores! Thank you again for helping to bring a bit of my grandmother home with me.

If you were walking down Main Street and it started to rain, you would be really lucky if you were close to this place and ducked in - even luckier if rained for an hour or more so you got a chance to browse the whole shop. Recommended.

If you are looking for an old-fashioned type of book store that ACTUALLY SELLS pretty much JUST BOOKS, check out Downtown Book Shop. The inventory system is a little confusing, but if you like to spend some time digging through some old volumes - and they do have real antiques (behind glass) - you will love this place! For bona fide book worms only!

Update: The previous owner Bob Ritchie has retired, and fortunately this store was bought by some folks who have done a marvelous job in his stead. 10/10 would recommend if you love a bargain on a nice used book.nnA low-key shop with a great collection of used and rare books. Not sure why the previous reviewer gave it one star, Bob Ritchie's a very friendly & pleasant guy.
