This was the absolute worst school I have ever attended. During my time here I was put in classes completely taught by the students; as we were given workbooks and told to “learn on our own” through “problem based learning.” I was called down to the office over rumors the principle heard about me hooking up with boys or something OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL, which is ABSOLUTELY unacceptable and unprofessional. Girls I know were outed as gay to their parents because the principle heard rumors or saw certain students hanging out together. This was disgusting and in NO WAY the school’s business. I was suspended from school (with good reason, freshman immaturity) with 0 meeting beforehand on why and was given 0 chance to defend myself or give my side of the story. They called my friends down and asked them personal questions about me. I found out I was being suspended AFTER I had gotten home that day. They went against their own handbook and gave me no time to meet with teachers beforehand to discuss missed work. They had an assembly about me while I was suspended as well and NAMED ME during that assembly which caused other students AND TEACHERS to treat me terribly, something I could have very well SUED for. If you are thinking about sending your girls here, you should 100% reconsider. I wouldn’t ask my worst enemy to attend this ‘school.’
I am totally impressed by the work APH is doing to educate young women. They are providing young women with a great opportunity. The campus is a welcoming and beautiful place to learn. The teachers, staff and administration care about each individual student and work hard to help them achieve their goals both in and out of the classroom.
We are the parents of a freshman and have nothing but wonderful things to say about Penguin Hall. Before posting our review, we read all of the prior comments which seem to land on 1 or 5 stars. We have been impressed with the mission statement and devotion from the school’s leadership team. The advisors and teachers have been great to meet and have a genuine passion for teaching. Our Daughter is settling in well and looks forward to getting to school early! Our review is based on current experience and the confidence we get on the vision of Penguin Hall going forward. We hope to see the school grow as our freshman continues in her High School education. If you have a high-school daughter and are looking for a better experience for her, we highly recommend you tour and speak with staff and students.
I am a 2019 graduate of the Academy at Penguin Hall. This school changed my life for the better. I was suffering at my public high school through freshman and sophomore year. I felt different and excluded and began the search for a private school that would fit my needs. I hated the idea of an all girls school but I liked what the school represented so I went to an open house. Flash forward to next fall I'm attending orientation for new students. APH found someone who felt as if they had no voice, and instead of speaking for me, they handed me a megaphone so that the world could not ignore me. I grew as a person in a way I never knew I could. I was given so many opportunities that my biggest issue at this school was figuring out which opportunity to take. The teachers truly care for each and every student and the relationship between faculty and students is one that continues past high school. Any student who chooses to go here is in for a treat and a journey that will allow them to be the best possible version of themselves.
I would not recommend this school to anyone. Parents and students were promised full science labs, teacher retention and progressive project based education which was all a complete fabrication. This school has had an extremely high turn over rate since opening, which speaks volumes about the school, from the first year 99% teachers have quit. Many administrators have also left in a short span of time, directors and deans have quit working for the school which is very difficult for parents and students having any consistency. This school lacks ethics, I would advise parents and students to seek alternate education.
