Whhhhyyyyyy you still closed?!

I visited this library today, Tuesday March 10 at around 4:30pmnnThe “librarians” here are not very helpful at all... Specifically the African American women, sadly. As I am also African American. The guy who works there is nice and very helpful though and so is the Caucasian woman. I frequent this library often since my son likes the children’s area (full of kids taken there daily by their nannies). Every time I go to the counter to try and check out a book, they look as if I just asked them to go and clean the toilets! They then point me to the machine directly across the desk, even if there’s a line and they are doing nothing but sitting there chatting amongst themselves.nnI asked them, what do they do there if they’re just going to point me to the machines. They said they can answer a question if I had one.. so I go to the machine as directed and I realized I forgot my library card, but since I didn’t really want to encounter the unhelpful women at the desk again, I looked for 5 minutes to see if I could find my number via email and I couldn’t, so I had to go back to them. At that point she had to look me up and I asked her if she could possibly just check me out at the counter since I was already there. She reluctantly checked me out and I was able to take my books.nnAnother experience I had On a previous visit, was also in the kids area. A middle school aged kid was in the kids area using offensive language. I had asked him to refrain from using that language but he persisted. The staff who apparently knew the kid told him to stop and that he shouldn't be in that section, but the kid still remained in his seat even with the security guard sitting there lecturing him. They did what they could, but it was unpleasant to be there with my 4 year old at that time.nnI still go there because they do have good programs and nice staff there on certain days, I just need to find out what days those are.

Fine location of brooklyn public library. Definitely more inviting than nearby Brower Park location which has like one tiny window. I have had mixed experiences with librarians here, some very nice and some kind of rude. It would be nice if they put a book drop slot outside so you could return books when they are closed

Location is convenient, yet every single table upstairs is occupied by people talking on their phones. In a library. In a studying area.

Nice place but very Noisy. No staff control on the Noice. Sometimes, Upstairs has alot of garbage on their garbage container.
