Brooklyn Public Library - Cortelyou Branch

When the libraries first re-opened, I had placed around 10 books in the return bin. After checking my account around 2 weeks later, I noticed that they had not been returned. I called the library branch and the woman who answered was very kind and respectful (unfortunately I cannot remember her name). She called me back after checking my account and resolved the issue immediately. I was very stressed because I of course did not want to be charged for books that I had returned and her response relieved everything! In general, I also do enjoy physically coming to this library, but it might not be the best place to study for elongated, focused periods (the only reason why this is a 4/5).

This is my first review, and I would rather give you information on this place before you go there instead of being like the 65 year olds complaining about kids hogging the pcs.nnFirstly, I wouldn't come here to study. It's pretty noisy and hosts a lot of things including chess championships. In addition, it's like a hang out for the kids at the school next door basically. So just think about that, that sounds like a place you wouldn't wanna study in.nnSecondly, if you wanna pick up books, then it'll be a quick and easy trip. the library section is very nice and organized and away from the kids, so you don't have to get yourself in any trouble.nnThirdly, if you need help, i wouldn't recommend here. This library can hire the most rude, sassy and hateful staff ever that don't help you with anything or do everything with an attitude. That just makes you not wanna be bothered with them anymore and just leave. However, they also have some of the most nicest staff ever. I recently went there and the staff was no nice and treated me so kindly.nnSo overall, I do recommend this library but to certain extents, DON'T COME HERE TO STUDY.

I only go to rent movies. They have a pretty good selection. In terms of staff I have never had anyone be rude to me like others have mentioned but you better not be in a rush because you’ll be waiting a while for someone to be free to help or answer questions.

The best service ever! I’m from queens and didn’t have a library card the librarian I don’t know her name but she was Asian and amazing!! She helped me out when she could’ve simply said nope we don’t do that here. She was the only person working and was taking care of everyone on a busy day. Wish she was in my neighborhood.

Great for kids/ teens, but it's impossible to work or read with all the kids and teens running around and yelling. So it's very very kid friendly.... but if you don't have kids... the local cafes across the street on Cortelyou are much quieter if you do have actual work to get done.
