We asked the fire department to take our scout troop through the station for the fire safety merit badge. They were amazing and took a lot of time out of their day to answer our questions and to be patient with our 12 year old scouts. Great people who love what they do and I’m sure give what they have.

On July 01, 2017, Draper City took over their own fire services. Fire services had previously been provided through contracts by Unified Fire Authority. Draper has 3 fire stations which provides both fire and medical services.

1490 PARK BLVD OGDEN UT Today, a great guy was pulled off the road helping a mama duck , get her babies out of storm drain. He called the fire department , They came and quickly got the ducks out. Unfortunate part they didn't realize when they put them in a bucket of icy water, THEY ARE NOT FISH, hypothermia set in within 5 minutes. I followed the fire fighter up the hill. There was enough water within 3 minutes of walking with the ducks in the bucket to drown one and the others were barely hangin on. The othes within 3 more minutes we ran back down and put in a warm heated car. The other ducks were rolling on their backs and blacking out, and not moving. (This is hypothermia) Within 20 minutes of heat and rubbing the other ducklings they started to chirp, The babies were fine in the well, because their feathers were dry. When they took them out and placed them in the bucket, their feather got very wet and they started to die. Quickly!! I'm posting this for everyone to educate, I'm not sure how so much water got in the bucket when they were getting them out. PLease make sure your placing them in a dry area. Please dry the duckings feathers quickly. They don't develop their resilient water proofing until they are a few weeks old... They ususally nestle under their mothers ,they cannot regulate thier own heat.. I just new to get them under a heat lamp or heat...Also the best thing if they are on curbs and in wells , take them to a wild life rescue in ogden.. But if you do decide to stop and help , move them quickly to warmth (Your car, blanket, something soft and don't suffocate them.) WILDLIFE REHABILITATION CENTER!!! 1490 park blvd ogden Also call draper animal control to help you. MOM IS ALIVE and 5 baby ducklings are snuggling in tonight with wildlife rehabilitiation center, getting warm and cared for until they are 3 month old and will be carefully placed back into their natural wildlife.Ducklings are defenseless. A duckling can not survive on its own without its mother's warmth and protection. Lone, orphaned ducklings quickly fall prey to the elements, other ducks, turtles, and egrets/herons. Ducklings can die from cold (hypothermia) even if the outdoor temperature is warm. Until they are several weeks old (once they begin growing feathers on their breast), ducklings can not generate their own body temperature without mom nearby for warmth, Ducklings can drown. Until they grow feathers, ducklings get their waterproofing ability from the oils on mom's feathers. Ducklings should never be placed in water. Ducklings can die within 24 hours from lack of proper nutrition. An improper diet can rapidly lead to hypoglycemia. A very young duckling that is staggering or appears "drunk" is hypoglycemic and will die unless it is provided with some source of sugar. Dextrose or a small amount of table sugar mixed with water can be smeared onto the duckling's tongue. It should respond to the sugar within 20-30 minutes. This is a temporary fix and the problem will continue to happen unless the duckling receives the proper diet and nutrition.
