i promise you this not a school you would like to go to whoever told you guys that this school is a good school trust me it isn't and i know because i go here when i auditioned i really thought this was way different from other schools and it was gone be like high school musical but it ain't no different from none of these city schools just because you have to audition doesn't mean its different, some of the teachers here have ZERO respect for any of these kids they treat you like you don't matter and the security guards here are very cruel and disrespectful. i could give you a whole book on whats wrong with this school.but i'm not gone lie it does help with your major and dream or whatever but that about it. they say this school is a school where you could express yourself but they don't even let you wear what u wanna wear or even express yourself in a your own way.

It not what it's held up to be if you are looking for high school musical where you can walk around and do as you please then go to one on the many other schools in the district. The school can be strict at times and It's not easy work balancing your major with your academics but the school is one of the best schools in the district and it's in a nice part of the city. The teacher's vary from amazing to down right disrespectful but it also depends if you get on their good side. All in all it is a good school very interesting and lots of things to do but it's clear that the staff hold a very high expectation for the students to keep it's record and if you can't keep up then it won't be a pleasurable experience.

I graduated before the move to the new building. Was a wonderful experience, trained in the discipline and hard work and craft of the arts, along with AP college preparatory classwork.

Rochester seems to have this notion that whatever city school has a large population of caucasian students is an excellent school. This is simply not true. If your child is passionate about dance or theater, perhaps this school is a good option. But if you want your child to be happy as well as challenged and properly educated, this school is not for you.nTo start, the SOTA staff is perhaps the rudest staff in the RCSD. They're abrasive, harsh, and they harass students and families. The SOTA staff is comparable to the staff of a maximum security juvenile detention center-- they only care about discipline, not the well being of the students.nSecondly, the academics are sub-par at best. For students who want to advance and want to be challenged, they simply cannot. Regardless of how much a student proves him/herself, they cannot advance as much as they want to. At Wilson, Sophmore students are allowed to take three AP classes, whereas at SOTA, they are only allowed to take one.nFinally, and most importantly, the atmosphere at SOTA is the worst. If a psychiatrist went around the RCSD and sampled mental health from each school, they would find loads and loads of depressed and suicidal kids at SOTA. At sota, the relationship between students is awful. I challenge you to find a student at SOTA who was not bullied at SOTA. EVERYONE is bullied, popular people AND unpopular people. Cyberbullying is CONSTANT, and nudes are constantly being passed around the school. The staff at SOTA also contributes to this by making all of the students feel like they are felons, or as if they've done something wrong. There was even a case of Officer John harassing a student so much that she attempted to jump out of the third floor window. There are more fights at SOTA than at World of Inquiry or Wilson, and this is simply because of the atmosphere at SOTA.nThe rate of bullying and fights at SOTA is unparralleled to any other school in the RCSD.nRochester needs to stop associating large populations of middle class white students to good schools.nSOTA is not a good school if you are a parent seeking scholarly excellence, perhaps consider World of Inquiry or Wilson.

This school is downright not a school you would want to come to until some of the teachers are corrected. Some teachers are rude and need to give students more respect. Teachers at SOTA need to learn respect before there given. now let me not start on the school well being. the bathrooms are dirty, mouses be running around freely sometimes in classes, the food is so nasty (sometimes), and the staff treat us students poorly and the stuff we get suspended for is not fair nor negotiable. The administrators will suspend you just so they wont have to deal with you. they never seem to try to figure out the problem and jump to conclusions. the vending machine steals our money like it nothing. now when i mean we get suspended for the tiniest thing i mean we really do. people get suspended for kissing on the stairs, like common is it that serious to take someone outta class for 3 days for kissing.? So if you wonder if this is the right school for your child think again. do you want your child grabbed by a teacher.? Do you want your child to get in trouble for walking in the hallway with a hat.? Do you want you child to be caught kissing another student and get accused of doing something else.? i can go on and on about how this school isn't fair nor have the right teachers but i'm a let you decide whether this is a school right for your child.
