My divorce was in 3 different counties. My ex-husband filed for divorce after my 1st lawyer dropped the case in Rockland. He thought because the marriage was in Manhattan that the divorce could be. He was scammed by a lawyer who knew neither of us had business or children in the jurisdiction. But the court staff here was professional and helped me file my own documents as self represented. The judge understood truth and he thought he was helping me by transferring the divorce to Orange County where I was displaced after my home foreclosed due to financial abuse. But, what happened to me was the worse legal abuse you could ever image out in Orange County. It’s so bad the judge sealed my own records and I can’t access my own divorce. She denied my right to trial or due process and I was coerced into an oral stipulation with criminals. I tried to fire my lawyer and I was yelled at and abused. My case files were held hostage. These people went way past all bounds of decency.

Justice does not flourish there. Cases with more than 40 adjournments. Sending a letter to a Judge, forget it. Even with signature confirmation someone conveniently misplaces it? What a terrible mess of a court system there. Dragging cases on for years due to lack of organizational skills, bad attitudes, lack of concern and stalling tactics, which attorneys seemingly are permitted to get away with.
