Spencers

I visited the Spencer’s Rockaway, New Jersey location earlier today. I drove all the way the Rockaway Mall just to go to Spencer’s. When I finally got there, the gate to the store was closed with a sign that said “hang tight, we’ll be right back.” There was no time indicating when the employee(s) left or when they would return. I stood outside the gate for about 25 minutes. I figured that the store was just understaffed and that there was only one employee working and needed to close in order to take their lunch break. After about 25 minutes, I saw not one, not two, but THREE employees come back to the store with bags of food from the food court. They quickly shut and locked the gate behind them. I approached the gate and said “excuse me” as they walked toward the back of the store and ignored me. I stood there and the male employee came out to go to the register. I said “excuse me” again and he looked at me. I asked what time they would be reopening. The employee replied “I don’t know probably a half an hour” and looked away. This is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE customer service. I drove far to visit the store, only to stand there for 25 minutes, and then be told to wait another 30 minutes while THREE of your employees had lunch together. Instead of rotating lunch breaks, they all wanted to eat together and sacrificed the needs of the business. I had a list of items to purchase and would have been spending several hundred dollars at the store that day. Not only did Spencer’s just lose my business that day, but they lost me as a customer forever. That was the most unacceptable, worst customer service I have ever witnessed. I myself work in a mall and can assure you that we would NEVER close our doors while the mall was open, let alone have all of our employees have the same lunch break and no one in the store. There were no other store s in the mall that had their gates/doors closed, especially on a busy Sunday, which is likely the busiest day of the week for that mall. I am so completely disappointed and frustrated. I hope you take this feedback and look into the employees working at this location. They are completely unprofessional, and made it very clear that they do not care about your business.

Would give a zero out of 5 stars, if it were an option to choose from. Absolutely horrendous customer service. First time coming to this Spencers. Every other Spencers I have been to, the staff were sweet and welcoming and made customers want to come back to their stores. Figured I would stop here today since I was in the area, and needless to say, I will not be returning here due to the disrespect I encountered today with the two disrespectful staff members that worked today. If you don't like your job, quit, someone more friendly would gladly take the job I’m sure. Rude, disrespectful, nasty associates here. Please take a course in learning proper customer service.

My kids love this place but I love it more! Always new and fun things to buy! The employees are always willing to help!

Not sure what the names of the employees were yesterday but they were very helpful!

A lot of gag and crude oddities in this store. It's not a place you bring young children but a place you bring immature adults for some unique shirts and gags.
