I have to say as a 15 year truck driver myself, I really enjoyed this program of Pelletier Inc. I highly respect your woodsmen savvy and determination to keep going when all seems to be lost. I too, experienced more time on ice and snow than on clear highways. My normal route was the Northeast in all weather scenarios. I also have been in some very bad situations including a head-on collision leaving the other driver dead. This is the way of the trucking industry, to say the least. I also have management experience in which I would like to offer my armchair advice to Rudy and Eldon Pelletier.nnThe one thing that stood out to me was the way you advised rookie drivers in the office but never made an honest attempt to witness the bad habits and lack of ability in the truck itself. You constantly stressed safety but it seemed to stop when the driver got in his truck and left the yard with only verbal concerns. You often reminded the driver and everyone else of how much the truck costs but made no attempts to ensure that your equipment would have the utmost care as to put the best man under its steering wheel. What happened to orientation or classroom time on the specifics of the hazards that lie in front of the men? In fact, their very lives hang on you and your company for their safety in this particular business. I also noticed how many times you mentioned how very dangerous the Golden Road was but never sat on the buddy side of the truck watching and coaching the new driver to these hazards and warnings. If you can continually stress the importance for safety there must be an application of this rhetoric installed at some point in company policy.nnBefore I watched your program in its entirety, I had already watched the Ice Road Truckers of Alaska. Towards the end of the last season aired of your program I noticed that you were plagued with too many accidents involving rookie drivers. With all the management personnel you have on the payroll, you lack in one respect. I would like to point out that you do not have a full time experienced Driver Safety Director. What that one man could contribute to your company could easily be paid a salary by the number of trucks that stay out of harm's way for the hauling season.nnIn comparison, I watched the Ice Road Truckers programs and I would like to congratulate the Carlisle Trucking Company for all of their efforts to ensure that all drivers are properly trained and meet the minimum requirements to drive safely on the Alaska highways and ice road waterways. I would highly recommend that the Gerald Pelletier Inc., take safety pointers from Carlisle Trucking Company's standpoint of hazardous truck driving situations and training.nnI have one more observation to make. As I watched the programs, I noticed that the oldest Pelletier brother, Danny, was having a bad season of accidents. I personally feel he was feeling insecure about himself because of that rollover he experienced and losing confidence as he went along on each trip. I hate to see a man lose his ability due to age setting on but it is much better to lose one's position in the company than to lose one's life due to oversights of the company to pull that man to the side and or place him in another position of safety. I recommend that Danny becomes your full time Safety Director and has the responsibility of riding with all drivers employed for the safety and benefit of the entire company.nnI wish you well and hope you have a prosperous and safe year of business.nnRespectfully,nAlbert G.
