Victorian Mansion

During this unusual time of the coronavirus, my wife and I were able to take a rare trip to Galena Illinois. Having stayed multiple times in that beautiful tourist area, we were fully aware of the plethora of choices in which to stay. This Victorian Mansion is one of the few options to rest our heads which we have not utilized. What the owners have accomplished in such a short time of their remodel/renovation is quite incredible. The mansion and the grounds are quite exquisite. The local caretaker was incredibly responsive to any of our needs and made our stay extremely delightful.

Beautiful on the outside and the room seemed very nice. Then we found blood on the mattress pad. Will not be back.

This is a beautiful old historic home, but I would not stay again. The biggest issue is that we were not refunded a deposit for a reservation that we had to cancel. We changed our dates, well within the cancellation policy, but were charged the deposit for the stay we cancelled, as well as the full amount for our actual stay. When I contacted the host, she said she couldn’t see it in her computer, and that Hotels.com would refund me (since the reservation was made through them)—but the charge on the statement was directly from the venue, and Hotels.com had said the charge would be directly from the venue. Hotels.com tried to intervene for me, but after telling them she wasn’t in the office the first time they called, she would not respond to them after multiple attempts, so I had to file a dispute with my credit card company. So we did get the money back, but it was a problem! We also realized the last day of our stay that the smoke alarm in our room was missing. She decided for our second morning just to not open the kitchen since we were the only ones there, so just gave us a $20 bill—fine, but just kind of odd. We were also somewhat taken aback that the host never wore a mask, and did not require it of guests in the common spaces—so note that if it’s an issue for you. Luckily, there were very few others there during our stay and we spent little time there except in our room. Reading some reviews after the fact, sounds like ours was not the only problem, so....

A lovely and welcoming place to stay. Rooms are well appointed, period furnishings are delightful. Staff are warm and helpful. Location is central to most of what you'll do visiting Galena, yet the area is quiet and the beautiful grounds are private. Highly recommended.

This was a nice place to stay in a great location close to Main st but not in the thick of downtown noise. The Jackson room felt luxurious with a grand bed and really great updated shower and hot tub. A small electric fireplace under the tv provided good ambient noise. The toilet room could be better but I mean its a toilet, the toilet room does what it's supposed to. The bed was squeaky but I think that is to be expected from seasoned wood furniture (it wasn't the mattress, which was nice and plush). There was someone staying in the suite next to ours but we never heard any noise from them/outside our room. The billiard room was a nice touch and coffee is available all day via a keurig setup. There are also a few porches you can sip your Galena wine on. We didn't have very much interaction with the owner/host but we also didn't partake in breakfast and we kept later hours of coming and going. Overall an interesting property.
