They're open 7 days a week. The people in the gift shop / museum were super sweet, and helpful. Very knowledgeable and they even let us pet a real live owl. Not only did we get to pet the owl, but we also got to walk around with him because he liked us. The artifacts they have in there are really extensive, and the place is well-designed. The museum is small, but packed full of knowledge and eye candy. The mound itself is fascinating. I loved it!
This was the most awesome place with so much history. The man working in the office was like a living history book. He treated us so well and was so good we can't wait to come back.
Very informative on the indigenous tribes of north America/Alabama dating back to 18000 bc. Lot of artifacts and the mound was pretty impressive since it was built by hand. Highly recommended.
As a concerned citizen, Brian Murphy should not be renewed as he is trying to erase history and spread division in the Shoals. The Mound has not been represented well. I could do a better job educating the public on the historical significance of these important landmarks!!!
So disappointed in the City of Florence. I am a longtime resident, and have visited many of the historical sites of the area. This area is rich and diverse in so many historical cultures. I believe we should respect and honor all history, and not attempt to discriminate against certain cultures and pursue efforts to pin false narratives on those. Florence has appointed Brian Murphy to curate over the areas richest historical sites even though he is a leading board member of groups who are pushing their political agenda to remove and erase parts of the areas history. This is unacceptable from the City, and if allowed to continue could destroy our areas history. Will the Indian mound preservation be next to become this curators target? I believe the city can’t afford to take that chance. I will no longer support any of the local historical sites as long as Brian Murphy is allowed to oversee them. He does not have the preservation of history as his best interest.
