It's quiet & unspoiled nature preserve that is only open buy appointment. There are coyotes and lots of birds there. You can hear the coyotes howl at night.

Strike one: They only offer guided hikes meaning you can’t hike solo. Strike two: Hikes only offered the second Saturday & second Sunday of each month at 9:00am. Strike three: No dogs allowed.nnI understand the want and need to preserve it but there are clearly better ways - you can’t even enjoy it alone - keep looking for better places people

Beautiful nature preserve accessible by guided hike only. The hike is relaxed and the history, wildlife and topography of the preserve is celebrated. Visitors gain access to creeks, vistas and other unexpected sites during the 2.5-hour excursion. Hikes are at no cost and provided regularly throughout the year.

Don’t get me wrong, it was a beautiful hike, just would have been nice if I was informed before making the trip, that hiking was only permitted with a guide. I like to go at my own pace, not some one else’s. Cool views regardless.

Bright Leaf Preserve is an amazing gift to the city. It's a nature reserve in perpetuity due to the generous donation of land and funding trust of an old wealthy animal loving spinster. Hikes occur monthly as to not disturb too much of the flaura and fauna. A spot of paradise and conservation in an otherwise growing city. Take a hike if you can.
