My son was under Dr. Varn's care for two years. During this time we were pleased with the service. In October 2020 my son's teacher had some concerns with my son's vision. Doctors we see would work existing patients with problems into their schedule. Not Dr. Varn. We were told no appointments until February 2021. The staff went as far as giving recommendations for other doctor's to see. I would not recommend Dr. Varn for this specific reason. We were left high and dry when we needed care.

Dr Varn is the only Dr in this office and covid has backed up appointments. This office sees patients during lunch and sometimes at 5 when possible, staying opened pass time. Curtesy calls are made and phone text as well to confirm appointments. They try to help all patients as best as possible.

They are always backed up. Booked my son's appt in Aug for a Oct appointment. I lost my appointment card which is normal bc USUALLY offices remind you and I depended on that. Well, today I call to see when is the appointment.... It was MONDAY!!! No call, no reminder. The front office excuse was they called a number from 5 years ago although BOTH were listed bc I updated my info when I made the appointment. Now, bc of their mistake, his next appointment is in December. Mind you that he has had eye problems since an infant. Inconvenient and unprofessional

I loved Mary Varn she is a great doctor but the lady at the front desk has a smart mouth! She was rude on the phone and acted like she didn’t care. In such a rush. I never received a phone call reminder or voicemail like she claimed. I called to find out his appointment, since it has been a year. She was smart and said well you missed it. An eye appointment is very important, if I received the call we would have made it. I have two kids I can’t keep up with an appointment 1 year out. I’m very upset about this. My son lost his glasses and his prescription is expired. You would think they would have emergency appointments for circumstances like this . But I was informed well there’s only so many hours in a day. They won’t give me his prescription to get him glasses until he can be seen, due to it being expired. So we have to go 20 days without glasses and possibly Go through a week of dilating his eyes again. Or like I was informed I will be on a CALL list (which being the only pediatric eye doctor in Spartanburg, we rarely get cancellations) to try and get in faster. I just expected them to care more about their patients and more understanding. They could try and squeeze him in somehow. He is a kid that needs glasses to see!!! They didn’t try very hard. I’ve worked in a dental office and skipped lunch for a patient!

Great doctor...She took care of my son's issues with his eyes with excellent care and compassion. Very knowledgeable and helpful. We were blessed to have her during our time of need.
