Anderson Road Library | West Branch

I have NEVER been so humiliated in my life. I tried to renew my card and the woman at the front desk tells me I owe money from 2 years ago for a book I have never seen. Not to mention I’m Deaf, I used my phone to type and communicate but she just kept talking to me. I asked for pen and paper and got an attitude. Books are my safe place. No one should ever feel so accosted in a public place.

Today I visited this particular branch and I was racially profile. I dropped my children off at school this morning and went to this Branch to print out an email. I arrived at 8:15a, and waited for the branch to open. There were also other cars with people inside them waiting for this Branch to open. But at 9:01am I was still sitting in my car in a handicap parking space speaking with a physician about upcoming appointment. I was approached by the Branch Manager Laurel Hicklin. She asked if I was coming into the library and I answer yes. Then she asked if I had a handicap permit, I said excuse me. She didn't bother to look at license plate to see if it had a handicap decal. I was truly offended, I showed it to her in the window. Her response was Oh I didn't see it. I asked her why was she approaching me about a parking space. If I looked suspicious why didn't you call 911. I explained to her that she has no reason approaching me concerning a parking spot. She is not a parking attendant, she's a librarian. I went inside and asked who she was. I explained that I was racially profile and I will be making a complaint concerning this matter!! It's a shame that I pay taxes and I can't visit a library in peace!!
