Cool place. Good little spot to park and see the river just to the left, when going into Oklahoma

Stay clear of this construction project if possible. That being said it will be very nice upon completion and a favorite passage between Texas and Oklahoma.

Many trips over the years crossing the Red River here! Always checking to see how shallow the River is running- if I’m the passenger! Seen a train just a couple of times on the trestle! Bling Blinky of Texas: Over the River southbound back to Texas! Y’all Come!

Went on a kayak trip from the carpenters bluff bridge to 78 bridge. When you research where to pull out everything you find on the internet say this is the only pull out for another 30 miles. So when we paddled up we say a grovel road to the water that looked like the easiest way out. So we parked our boats and my husband walked to get our truck. When he pulled down a guy drove up on a four wheeler and started screaming at us. Told he he was the Forman for the construction crew. Told us to get off his property or else. So my husbands cousin drove off and the man forced us to get back in our kayaks and paddle upriver against the currant with tree kayaks. The only other place on the texas side that wasn't private property was a very steep wash out hill! It took 6 people to help get all of our stuff up the hill to the road. This pullout is the absolute worse. Idk what company is building that new bridge but they should fire that man. There are better more humane ways in dealing with people. Its absolutely ridiculous! People just want to have a good time, go on a kayak trip/ adventure then to have to deal with city/ county contractors threatening them. I'm sure we haven't been the only ones dealing with this. Until the bridge get completely finished or there becomes a better place to pull your kayaks out of the river I will not be doing this trip again!

It is still usable. Sometimes it is an awesome view. But the parking and viewing areas are in bad condition. I was talking about the Red River Bridge hwy 78, and the rest area on Texas side. In good weather you were able to walk a trail down to the river and fish or go swimming. That was 10-20yrs ago.
