Po' Monkey's Lounge

I'd like to keep the ratings up in the hopes this spot will reopen to its former glory. You see, Po Monkey has been closed since the owner passed away last year. To date there is no indication of a date to reopen. Worth stopping by if you're in the area already, even if just to pay respects. Who knows, maybe the day you're there will be the day it reopens

As the last of the true juke joints, Po Monkey's is a step into the past. Great home-grown blues music is played every night and the young age of some of the performers shows how this form of roots music is still being kept alive in traditional ways. If you are staying nearby in Clarksdale or Greenville, it's worth the drive for an evening. Po Monkey is a character, though; you've been warned. ;)
