Beautiful place. I come here often, I don't know anyone personally buried here but I pay respects anyway. I bring my tuba and play tunes to honor the fallen homo sapiens. If I can just touch one soul beyond the grave I've done my job.

Hazelwood cemetery is large and impressive. However when me and my girlfriend went there to take some afternoon photography, we were followed around by a public works truck who sort of ruined our experience. Peace was Disturbed! We were simply minding our business in a public place. There are some really good old family Springfield plots. Including two very Grand mausoleums. I have taken several hundred photographs and made several videos. If you would like to see them check me out. Edward Thilenius at Facebook, or visit CLEEVERIMAGES on Instagram.

Hazelwood is a National cemetery created as resting place for both Union and Confederate Soilders. Their's a cemetery for civil war Jewish Soilders on the western side of Hazelwood. I don't know when it got the name Hazelwood because most people call it the battlefield cemetery after the Civil war battlefield just west of town.
