Cafeteria food could be better. I know it's not the lunch ladies' faults. They're all wonderful and I talk to them every day. I know they know how to cook. School just doesn't supply them with good ingredients. Wouldn't call it a cockroach infestation, but I see at least 3 a day. Janitors sort of just kick them under the vending machines... Most teachers are great. Overall three out of five stars. Pretty okay school, just leaves me hungry and a little grossed out most days.
I have two students attending this school. My first is a senior and we had no issues throughout his tenure. However, my freshman is having nothing but problems with the teachers here. I can only hold the leadership responsible. Recently, a teacher (Jennifer Carpenter) tried to deny my child the right to go to the bathroom. Since, my child could no longer hold his urine, he informed the teacher he was going to the restroom. As a result, he was given a lunch detention. As a parent, I did not allow him to be detained and segregated from the rest of the students. Now he has been suspended for two days. How does this benefit the student? It seems as if this is another case of abusing power. No person or government entity should try to deny a basic human body function. These are people, not property. It is sad this is the way they treat students (or certain students). It seems they just want students to blindly follow rules just because they say so. The faculty is going from educators to corrections officers. They even went as far to say it was a safety concern (in writing). However, when the local terrorist were allegedly plotting to kill people at the school, limited communication was witnessed. But instead, propaganda was spewed over the intercoms as too how great the day was and how well the football team did. This is very reminiscent of North Korea or a concentration camp.
Love the school, the faculty and the administration. Everyone is plugged in and while there is a plethora of extracurricular activities available the student body, the emphasis is on them becoming well-rounded, successful young adults. We relocated to Woodstock from Miami, FL and one of the requirements for our (then) future home was that it had to be within the Etowah boundary lines. This detail paid off ten times over our investment of time and energy.
I am a senior at Etowah and have met the nicest teachers ever here. The major problem about this school though is the cockroaches, broken toilets, and the campus is huge. The ramp they have for wheelchairs is uncovered and is exposed to the elements so if its raining out and your in a wheel chair you have to try to get up that steep ramp just to get to your next class. They need to cover it as they do for all the other walk ways around the school. They need to do something about all the cockroaches they have around the school it is gross and not good for our health. The senior lounge is infested with them, last year and this year there was a cockroach in a girls food. Food she got from the cafeteria, I do not understand why no one has called the board of health on the school yet! Half of the toilets in the girls bathrooms have broken toilet seats causing us to slide when we try to use the bathroom. Also I find it ridiculous that the faculty still pick and chose who they flag on the dress code. I walk around the school and see girls wearing these tiny shorts that expose half of their butt yet they do not get flagged for it, but when they do flag someone they are wearing dress code approved clothing. Also they do not call out the guys who are always sagging their pants! We cant show our shoulders in school so they shouldn't be allowed to show their butts all over the school. The school has some good teachers but a lot of them just hand you a paper and tell you to do it without explaining what you are supposed to do.
My son was assaulted on the school bus. They expelled him also. Twisted the story to make it out like he had been teasing the other kid. They lied. School board tribunal was a kangaroo court. The school wasn't require to present any evidence other than their word. I had written statements from witnesses, which didn't make a difference. I've been denied the opportunity to view the video.
