My wife and I have pretty high standards for where we stay and we felt the Truitt House and its very welcoming and warm host, Ruth, really exceeded them. Our goal is to find unique places which we can use as a base for exploring a community. The Truitt House was stupendous - from the delightful room to the well-appointed public spaces to the friendly host to the delicious breakfasts - and served as a reminder that hosting can be done exceedingly well. The house is close to great restaurants, has convenient parking, and has a relaxed Southern-style of hospitality that is most welcome. Come for the chance to see the house, stay for the opportunity to enjoy all it and its host have to offer. We will be back!

Having frequented many B&Bs all over Virginia and elsewhere, we have high standards we look for when locating a B&B. The Truitt House not only met but exceeded our standards. From the moment we walked in the door we were enthralled with the place. 8000+ sq feet of elegance, painstakingly restored to it's beginnings in 1905. The proprietress, Ruth Baker, strives to make you comfortable in every way. Her Background as a trained French Culinary Chef is quite obvious in the incredibly delicious meals she prepares for her guests.nThis is one to put on your list.

Staying at the Truitt House was truly a unique and exceptional experience.nnNowhere else can you take in a beautiful, historic house so painstakingly reconstructed and furnished that is hosted by a professionally trained chef whose passion is exceeding your expectations.nnCome to be welcomed and amazed. Come to relax, to be comforted, and to be transported to another world.nnCome to be wowed by every meal. Come and you will be glad you did.

It’s impossible to put into words how amazing our stay was. Within minutes of meeting Ruth you feel like you’re visiting a long time friend. Ruth is queen of hospitality and the efforts and love she put into restoring the house is clearly evident. You have everything you need and more. Everything was extremely clean and comfortable and beautiful. Her cooking is AMAZING. You won’t want to leave the house! But if you do there are plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance. We can’t wait for our next stay at The Truitt House. We will definitely be back!

My wife and I had a rare child-free night and decided to have a mini getaway. We gave Truitt house a try based on the reviews and the pictures. We were not disappointed! A beautifully restored mansion in historical Suffolk, with an amazing hostess/innkeeper/chef. The house was gorgeous, clean, and tastefully furnished. Truly felt welcomed by Ruth, she delivered on everything we could have expected and more. It was like staying with family- the kind of family that prides themselves on hospitality. Breakfast was amazing- smoked salmon eggs benedict with croissants made from scratch. We didn't want to leave. We told all our friends they need to go. We are definitely going back!
