Jardin means garden. This is not a park where you have bathroom facilities for picnics, etc. Its is a garden dedicated to the Historic Mesquite Street District. This original townsite was the first surveyed section of the city of Las Cruces (The Crosses).
Yes, here you read the walls of the history of the area and the importance of the people, church, downtown area. You sit on backless benches because your meant to be there temporarily to take it all in then move on.
Its is meant to be a sort of gateway to walk the historic district of original adobe homes lining the streets. Having lived in Las Cruces as a child, I can tell you that the murals truly depict the history of the city. What is even more wonderful about this garden are the murals that were created by the artist and youth of Las Cruces. When I visit Las Cruces I enjoy going back to see this lovely work of Art.
I would call this more of a memorial than a park ... no parking ... no bathroom ... no tables ... no room ... not much shade ... backless benches for sitting ... no grass ... but go to read the walls ...
