Beautiful Rail to Trail walk that winds along the Maury River. Easy walking and a wide and flat path.

This path used to be a rail line. It follows the Maury River. There is a new trail head kiosk and a pet waste station. It has good parking and is nearly flat, so good for all ages. It does get busy at certain times, since it is widely used for fitness and dog walking. Views of the river are lovely. Mostly wooded with scattered benches. You can use non-motorized bicycles on the trail.nI use this trail frequently. Highly recommended for a nice walk any season for visitors and residents alike.

This trail runs along the Maury River from Lexington to Buena Vista. It is relatively flat (which is unusual for Rockbridge County), well-marked and well-maintained. It is a favorite trail among locals because it offers nice scenery and is easy to walk. The cliffs along the trail near the Lexington end are fascinating and tend to keep the trail cool and shaded during the hotter months. Near the Buena Vista end, there are nice river views. The trail is owned and maintained by VMI, and some of the trail crosses private land so hikers need to be particularly respectful in those areas. The trail is wide enough that hikers can pass and stay separated (for Covid concerns), and you can also ride the trail on your bicycle. Overall, this trail is widely considered to be a local gem.

Walked a whole twenty miles on it. Almost stepped in cow patties more times than I could count but worth it.

Easy walking trail, good for the family and for dogs. It does get a bit crowded for nature walks.
