What a wonderful venue for a weekend getaway! The 1820's brick country plantation house is set in quiet hills and farmlands. It's close enough to Lexington that guests can enjoy the restaurants, shops and sights of the city while still avoiding the noise. Guests can read on the front porch, play cards/games in the two parlors, gaze at the stars, and watch the fish in the pond and the cows in the pasture. The hosts are friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging (if you want to talk) and respectful of your time and space (if you don't). Breakfast includes generous portions of a variety of typical Southern dishes. Snacks and coffee are available during the day. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. Can't wait to go back!

The friendliest service! Very clean, excellent southern breakfast, and beautiful area. Definitely a great find that I plan to keep coming back to. So accommodating; the hospitality is top notch and the house is rich with family heirlooms and history. In between Natural Bridge and Lexington we felt like it was the perfect spot to stay to visit both. We had a really lovely time, definitely will be returning!

I am so pleased with our stay at Herring Hall Bed and Breakfast it was fantastic. The Hospitality was second to none . A/C was great and the antique nature of this picturesque stately home was wonderful. The bed was very comfortable and the amenities were all in order. The breakfast .. well what can you say bad about a huge southern breakfast with fresh ground coffee to top it off absolutely nothing bad about that. Ann went above and beyond to make us feel at home and make sure we had everything we needed it was like . Loved the Cows and Bulls decorated throughout our room and the house . I highly recommend this place and Look forward to our return .

Anne is a Rockbridge County native who can tell you all about the things you can do in the area.

It's hard to give a fair review, I'm trying to be fair:nPros:n1.Anne, the host is wonderful, very accommodating and make you feel like home immediately.n2. Anne's breakfast is super delicious and healthy.n3. The house itself is an antique, very beautiful and full of history. Very well-maintained. It will be a perfect spot for antique and history lovers.n4. The bed mattress and bedding are top quality. Very comfortable.n5. The house, bedding and rooms are very clean.n6. Great location for the natural bridge park and caverns, safari zoo and Lexington.nnCons:nThe windows are all sealed up with plastic cover, so you can't open windows for fresh air, which is a shame because Herring Hall is surrounded by trees and beautiful nature in the hill, which is perfect for you to have wonderful air, because of this and its history, the humidity in the house must stuck in all hardwood floors (including bathroom), so there is this strong musty smell in the room, it made all of us cough and couldn't breath at nights, so none of us had a good sleep. I personally had only 2 hours of sleep which never happened to me since I can pretty much sleep anywhere. And because of the musty smell, it ruins everything that are great.nnSuggestion: If the windows must be sealed with plastic for some reason, air filters and dehumidifiers in every room will help. The chemical air freshener is just a cover-up not a solution. The humidity can be harmful to the house and to the human body when the humidity turns to mold enhancer.nnHerring Hall could have been a great B&B without the strong musty smell. But the smell did ruin every nice quality of Herring Hall, so to be fair, I can only give it an average review.
