New park. Worked Eagle Scout Project. Great staff and Ranger. Clean bathrooms. Lots of really nice trails and visited several times over the summer for tubing down the James River. They will be expanding in the future as they receive funding for cabins. They have a really nice campground as well.
This park has a wonderful small campground. The sites are big, well laid out, and plenty of trees and foliage to block view of your next door neighbors. There are hiking trails along the James River and throughout the over 1500 acres in the park. One of my top 3 favorite campgrounds.
Clean, very nice camp host, and the rangers were the best. Loved the very active police presence - we felt very safe.nnJust make sure to get directions from the website - Google's are wrong.
I spent the long weekend here camping. I stayed in the canoe in campground. The hiking is some of the best marked trails I have ever seen. The grounds are very well kept and the staff is kind a d helpful. The draw backs are there is only one shower facility for the whole campground, and there is train tracks across the river,that sounds like the train is in your tent. For biking, hiking, or ridding I recommend this park. I would pass on the camping. Hope this helps.
We had a wonderful stay this week. Clean, quiet, spacious sites. Biking around was fun , the roads nice and wide and well cared for. Even enjoyed a full on rainy day, that was so relaxing!
